Old Match Factory
The Old Match Factory is a conceptual design for a significant mixed-use development located in the heart of Observatory, Cape Town. The proposal accommodates an area of 45 000m² and would serve as a catalyst for development.
The design concept is rooted in carefully integrating the new buildings with the existing heritage structures. The existing facebrick buildings maintain a significant presence within the urban fabric. However, the precinct is primarily segregated from the surrounding context. A thorough analysis of the current site conditions was conducted to “re-introduce” the precinct to the surrounding neighbourhood.
The new design of the podium level was primarily influenced by pedestrian movement and interaction and would accommodate a mix of retail, residential and office.
My responsibilities included:
- Designing, conceptually modelling, and massing the entire development.
- Choosing strategic viewpoints for rendering.
- Developing a brochure for the development.
- Narrating the progression of the development through diagrammatic analysis.
